Dex Fernandez is an interdisciplinary artist who knows no limits. With roots as a graffiti artist in Manila, he soon found himself in prestigious exhibits locally and internationally in Paris, Italy, Hong Kong, New York, and more. He is also the recipient of several residencies from Taiwan, Indonesia, Tokyo, among others.
Fernandez is best known for his iconic street art character, Garapata (The Flea). It is a quirky multi-legged head that has invaded public spaces all over the Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan as small hidden stickers or eye-catching murals. It is a symbol of Filipino optimism and resilience, the stubbornness to thrive anytime, anywhere, no matter what.
With the pandemic happening, Filipino resilience (and the world’s) is being tested more than ever. Fernandez’s art on Frederique Constant watches is a reminder of our will to overcome any challenge.
